Why are you part of AFCWA?
I was in a new town, a new wife, starting a new job all at the beginning of a new football
season, so my husband was nowhere to be found. I was miserable that first year. Our second
summer there, I decided to stop being miserable and start making connections. Because of
social media I stumbled upon this group called American Football Coach’s Wives
Association – I immediately said tell me more! As I dug into the organization I immediately
joined as a member, and I saw there was a convention – that night I told my husband, were
going to Nashville in January! Again because of social media I was able to friend coaches’
wives from all over the country and connect to ladies that understood and had been in my
shoes. That January we showed up in Nashville and those women that I had connected with,
I got to hug their necks and thank them for helping me grow and get my feet settled. In the
weekend it felt like I was at a family reunion. I knew it was God’s timing I found this
organization because I began connecting with women that just got it, I didn’t have to defend
my husband, my feelings, they just got it. From the moment I joined the organization it’s
helped me be a better woman, Coach’s Wife, and now mom! I joined the board to help other
women find that connection and to continue to help build our organization
What is your favorite AFCWA memory?
Hmmm – this is hard – I really have 2, one more specific than the other. The first is our
AFCWA banded together during COVID shutdowns. Our organization banded together and
supported each other the best way we knew how. The second is convention – I mentioned
this before, but its like a family reunion each year and I love it.
