AFCWA: Why are you in AFCWA?
Gina:.There was a time during the early years of my husband's coaching career when I was certain I was the only wife who felt alone due to his long hours and never ending workload. AFCWA provided me with a sisterhood of wives who offered instant camaraderie, understanding, and support. That understanding helped me embrace my position as a HC wife. Two seasons ago after 27 years on the sidelines we stepped away from coaching so my husband could complete his PhD. My husband continues as the Director of Athletics at SAGU.
AFCWA: What is your favorite AFCWA memory
Gina:My favorite memory of AFCWA without a doubt was before I was the official photographer but still took pictures of every convention for myself. The Trustees/Board asked me to take group pictures before a luncheon with Lou Holtz, our guest speaker. I had been hanging out with another NAIA wife, Kristi Maloney who became my "assistant". We were asked to escort Dr. Lou to the banquet hall and had the incredible opportunity to visit and take our pictures with him. Kristi and I have become very good friends as the result of that day and for that I too am grateful.
