In the world of football, recruiting seasons come and go. Now is the time for our organization to do some quality recruiting and we are in need of your support. The AFCWA is leading this recruiting effort as we prepare for our annual convention scheduled for January 2010 in Orlando, Florida. The opportunities for sponsorship are many and varied. We invite you to consider becoming a sponsor of one of our events, the AFCWA web site, or our scholarship program.

We hope your organization will seriously consider being part of all that the AFCWA (mail@afcwa.org) and in is doing so, promote the sport that has the nation watching throughout the fall of each year

Hospital Visit

Each year at convention, we ask wives to bring their school hats, t-shirts, mascot toys or phone cards to take to the local children’s hospital in that area. We also ask for signed footballs by players/coaches, as well, as these are very popular items. We then visit the Children’s Hospital to deliver all the items. There is a bus provided for the tour for those who sign up at convention. On occasion, there have even been a few husbands go with us. AFCWA also provides a monetary donation to the children’s hospital each year. Donations may also be made from anyone in honor of a loved one, etc.

If you are interested in sending a donation in general or in honor of a loved one, please make checks payable to AFCWA Hospital Fund along with a note stating who it is in honor of, as well as an address advising that person's family of the donation. Please submit to:

Answers to Frequently Asked Questions

What does “AFCWA” stand for?
It stands for American Football Coaches’ Wives Association, and we are about camaraderie, support, information and service. (Please refer to our web page, “About Us” for more details.)

What do I do to become an AFCWA member?
To become a member, refer to our page “Join Us”, where there is a registration form with instructions.

How many wives are currently registered with AFCWA?
There are currently over 500 wives registered, and new ones are added every year.

What do I get for joining?
Your annual dues entitles you to receive our AFCWA newsletter, which is published two or three times a year. It also entitles you to attend all the convention activities such as our Hospitality Room and High Tea, and partially pays for your luncheon ticket.

What if I cannot attend convention?
You must be a member in order to receive our newsletter.

Do I have to be a member to attend the luncheon at convention?
Yes. Since AFCWA pays part of the luncheon ticket, you must be a member in order to attend the luncheon.

What if I would like to bring a guest to the luncheon?
Because of the popularity of our luncheon, it is on a first-come, first-serve basis for members, which is why we encourage all members to have their dues and luncheon ticket paid by December 1st. This will assure that you will have a luncheon ticket. Therefore, anyone wanting a luncheon ticket for a guest will have to be put on a waiting list until the morning of the luncheon, at which time the guests will be notified if there are tickets available.

What if I don’t pay my dues by the December 1st deadline?
We encourage everyone to pre-pay their dues and luncheon ticket in order to be more organized at convention and know our numbers more accurately, but we accept registrations at convention..

What is the price of a luncheon ticket if paid at convention?
The price of a luncheon ticket for a member is $30.

What type of dress is suggested at convention?
Please refer to our web page under Convention, “Suggested Dress for Events”. Basically, dress is casual with the exception of Luncheon and High Tea, which is more “Business Casual” such as skirts, dresses, suits, pant suits, etc.

What is there to do all day?

  • Sunday is registration day, with the Hospitality Room open at 1:00 p.m.
  • Monday morning starts out with Continental Breakfast in the Hospitality Room followed by the Group Discussion and breakout sessions.
  • Monday afternoon is High Tea, honoring our AFCA President’s wife.
  • Tuesday morning starts out with coffee and tea in Hospitality Room followed by our General Business Meeting.
  • Tuesday noon is our Luncheon/Fashion Show.
  • Tuesday afternoon is the hospital visit to the Children’s Hospital.
  • Tuesday evening is the AFCA Coach of the Year Banquet.
  • Some years, there are shopping trips provided, for those interested.

As you can see, there are many functions to keep you busy. You can attend all or as many as you would like. We encourage you to attend as many as possible in order to get the most out of the convention.

Is there anyway that I can help at Convention?
Absolutely, and it is a great way to meet a lot of fun ladies! There are many ways you can help such as the Hospitality Room and Registration. Please contact us at mail@afcwa.org.

Are husbands allowed to attend any of the wives’ events?
Of course they can. There has been a husband or two known to venture into our Hospitality Room, if they dare. They are certainly encouraged to attend our Couples Social on Sunday night.

I heard that wives can “sell things” at convention. How do I sign up to do this?
Yes, this was started a few years ago and is very popular with the wives.  We encourage more wives to “set up shop” since we always get feedback that the wives want more exhibits. We know all ladies like to shop! There is a fee of $100 to set up a table to exhibit your items. This is on a first-come, first-serve basis, and check is to be sent to our Treasurer, made payable to AFCWA. (See web page, “Market Place” for more details.)

Are there any events in addition to the AFCWA events the wives are permitted to attend?
Yes, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes always likes to include the wives in attending their functions such as a Worship Service on Sunday morning, FCA Fellowships on Sunday and Monday evenings.
Also, the wives are invited to attend the men’s exhibits (must have their AFCWA nametag). Wives are also invited to attend the Coach of the Year Banquet and FCA breakfast, but these events require a ticket. And, of course, there is always the local shopping, museums, etc., depending on where the convention is held.

How do I contact someone at AFCWA to talk to?
You may contact our President, Beth Boyd, at mail@afcwa.org, where you can tell her your need, question, suggestion, support, etc., and list a phone number where you may be reached.
